Can I volunteer my time to the TMR Foundation?
Not directly but we work closely with the region’s non-profits and can pair you with one that fits your interests.

What types of causes does the TMR Foundation support?
We focus our attention on environmental, educational, cultural and social programs in the Truckee-North Tahoe region. We do not support individuals or political organizations.

How much money should I request?
Organizations should submit grant applications based on their needs. However, please keep in mind that we support many different organizations – not just one — each year.

Does my non-profit qualify for a grant?
All 501c3 non-profits can submit grant requests.

What sort of qualifications should potential grantees possess?
Your non-profit should have proven longevity and viability. We also look at the greater good, as in the overall social, economic and environmental benefits to the community.

How much do you give out each year?
The TMR Foundation gives one $30,000 scholarship, one $10,000 scholarship and four $500 scholarships each year.

Can you tell me about the scholarship process?
First the scholarship committee meets and reviews all completed applications. Based on this initial review, the committee invites a select group to interview. In a speed dating like setting, interviewees spend five minutes with each committee member. After the interview process has concluded, the committee makes its final selections and assigns awards.

Are scholarships limited to 4-year institutions or does higher education qualify?
Four-year institutions are preferred, however under certain circumstances we grant scholarships to students who are beginning their higher education at a community college.

How important are grades?
Grades are important, however there are other influencing factors. Please see the scholarship application for guidelines.

Are scholarships paid directly to the recipient or to the school?
Whichever the family prefers or the school requires.

When are the scholarships awarded?
Scholarships are awarded annually each spring near graduation time. The actual funding is dependent on recipients submitting the proper documentation and proof of enrollment.
